Steel W-Shape Finder (AISC Wide-Flange Beams)

Look up AISC wide-flange W-shapes (W8 to W24), or find the one that best fits a given depth and flange width, with metric W-designations.

How to use

  1. By name: pick a shape such as W12×26 to see its depth (d), flange width (bf), web and flange thickness (tw, tf), weight and profile.
  2. Fit a box: enter the largest width and depth the beam may take up. The closest-fitting shapes are listed, lighter ones first when two fit equally.
  3. With the Units panel set to metric, shapes also show their soft-metric names, such as W310×38.7.
  4. Length fields accept the same entries as the Feet and Inches Calculator: 9' 6, 7 3/4", 2743mm or 3m + 6'. A plain number means inches, or millimeters when the Units panel is set to metric.
