Egress Calculator: Exit Separation and Dead-End Corridors
Check exit remoteness on a floor plate: required stair separation of 1/2 or 1/3 of the diagonal (IBC 1007.1.1) and dead-end corridor length.
- Required separation between exits: 1/2 the diagonal, or 1/3 when sprinklered
- Dead-end corridor length against the code limit
- Floor plate diagram with the corridor and stairs
How to use
- Enter the floor plate’s width and length.
- Set whether the building is fully sprinklered. Exits must be at least 1/2 of the floor plate diagonal apart, or 1/3 with sprinklers (IBC 1007.1.1).
- Choose the dead-end corridor limit: 20 feet generally, or 50 feet where your code allows it for some sprinklered occupancies.
- Read the diagonal, the required separation, the longest allowed dead end and the length of a central corridor with a stair near each end.
- Length fields accept the same entries as the Feet and Inches Calculator: 9' 6, 7 3/4", 2743mm or 3m + 6'. A plain number means inches, or millimeters when the Units panel is set to metric.
