Terms of Use

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use govern your use of Archidesktop (“the app”), operated by ARCH-CORE LAB, LLC (“we”, “us”). By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

If you use the app on behalf of a firm or other organization, you agree to these terms on its behalf as well as your own.

2. Reference tools, not professional advice

The app provides calculators, lookups and estimates to help with early design, checking and learning. Its results are approximations based on simplified methods, typical published values and the inputs you provide.

Nothing in the app is architectural, engineering, legal or other professional advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship with us. The app does not size structural members, certify compliance with any code or standard, or replace drawings, calculations or reports prepared and sealed by a licensed professional.

3. Building codes and standards

Where a tool refers to a code or standard (for example the IRC, IBC, IECC, NBC, AISC, AASHTO or ASHRAE publications), it reflects our reading of a particular edition and section, simplified for quick reference. The code that applies to your project depends on the edition your jurisdiction has adopted, its local amendments, the occupancy and construction type, and the interpretation of the authority having jurisdiction.

Codes and standards change. A tool may not reflect the latest edition, an amendment or an official interpretation, and it may not cover exceptions that apply to your project.

We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the International Code Council, the National Research Council of Canada, AISC, AASHTO, ASHRAE, PNNL or any other code or standards body. Their names and the titles of their publications belong to their owners and are used only to identify the source a tool refers to.

4. Your responsibility

You are responsible for checking every result before relying on it, and for the decisions you make with it. Before any result is used for construction, permitting, purchasing or any purpose where an error could cause harm or loss, you agree to verify it against the applicable code, the manufacturer’s data and, where the work requires it, the judgment of a licensed architect or engineer.

Material quantities, bag counts and similar figures are estimates. Allow for waste and site conditions, and confirm with your supplier.

5. Accuracy and availability

We work to keep the tools correct, but they may contain errors, omissions or out-of-date information. We may change, suspend or discontinue any tool or the app at any time without notice.

6. No warranty

The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, free of charge. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or its results, including design errors, construction defects, rework, delay, failed inspections, lost profits, lost data, or any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, even if we were told such loss was possible.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us to use it in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 100 if you paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.

8. Privacy

How the app handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy (/privacy/). In short, what you enter stays in your browser on your device and is not sent to us.

9. Acceptable use

Do not use the app in a way that breaks the law, disrupts the service, or attempts to gain unauthorized access to it. The app’s design, code and content remain ours; these terms do not grant you any rights to them beyond using the app.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we make a material change, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you continue. The date at the top shows when they last changed.

11. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the app will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you use the app as a consumer, you may also have the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
